Get the signal running from your dj mixer to your Hercules and then adjust the input level in Audacity.
First off. your going to want the music coming out of Scratch Live to be as hot as possible without clipping.
I prefer to keep the master gain in SSL at 12 o'clock but I make sure that each track I load onto the virtual deck is as hot as possible without clipping.
If the track isn't hitting at the top of the yellow LED then the track needs to be turned up via the volume knob next to that virtual deck.
On the other hand, if the track is too loud, and hitting the red LED, then you should turn it down using the volume knob next to the virtual deck.
Once your tracks are running as hot as possible coming out of the software you will then want to run the signal as hot as possible into the channels on your mixer by monitoring the gain for each channel and then turning up the separate gain knobs at the top of the channel strip. On most mixers this gain knob should be between 12 and 2 o'clock.
Once the signal is set for your channels you'll then want to turn up the output on your mixer your running into your Hercules between 12 and 2 o'clock.
Now turn up the gain knob on your Hercules so that your inputting the signal as hot as possible there.
I'm not familiar with the Hercules but you may need to turn up the master gain knob on your Hercules to get the sound to Audacity.
Once the sound get to Audacity adjust the input level there so the signal is coming in as hot as possible without clipping.
That should give you a hot recording without distorting the signal.
